Shadow flicker assessments can be used to inform and influence any future planning or management of a proposed wind energy scheme in respect of shadow flicker disturbance.
Following the relevant guidance concerned with shadow flicker analysis and utilising specific software (Resoft WindFarm), shadow flicker assessments identify and report shadow flicker events on residential properties within a specified study area, centred on the proposed wind turbine(s) location. Shadow flicker only occurs inside buildings where the flicker appears through a narrow window opening and can only occur within properties 130 degrees either side of north of the proposed wind turbine.
The time of the day, day of the year and duration of shadow flicker events on residential properties are identified and mitigation measures proposed to alleviate any potential events.
