Landscape and townscape character assessments

Amalgam Landscape has extensive experience of completing landscape character assessments at both regional and local authority scales, where the existing landscape is divided into areas of similar characteristics called ‘landscape character areas.’

Landscape character assessment helps to define and categorise the key features of an area, record how they are evolving and provide guidance on planning, conserving and managing future landscapes. Landscape character assessment is a tool for understanding the process of landscape change and helps to inform judgements and decisions on how change can be planned and managed.

Landscape character assessments are often used to inform strategic planning policies and can guide future development proposals and designs, including the Local Development Framework (LDF).
