Carditch Drove, 7.1mW solar development, Somerset

Fig-5-LCA-Carditch-Drove-P0113A landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA) was produced for a proposed 7.1MW solar development near Congresbury in North Somerset.

The key issues considered within the LVIA were the potential views of the proposed development from the adjacent Strawberry Line, a popular local cycle route and the indirect influence on the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Through an assessment of the landscape character, the regular levels
landscape was considered appropriate for the proposed solar development.Mitigation measures were also proposed as part of the assessment process to limit the potential impacts and effects of the proposed development.

The mitigation measures, including additional tree and hedgerow planting as well as advice on the solar panel design was incorporated into the final layout. This was illustrated on an indicative landscape masterplan.

This solar development was granted planning permission.
